EP2003

Started as a home recording project by New Jersey-born founding members Milo Finch and Chris Partyka, the Ghosts of Pasha began their strange journey in 2003. The "idea" behind the effort was to never make the same kind of music twice, and to invite new members in and out of the group to influence and change the sound.

The group has toured the US, has performed/been interviewed on two television programs, has been featured in major magazines & news papers, in commercials on cable and network TV, on popular webisodes, on internet and conventional radio in the US, the UK, and France, and in a exclusive DVD compilation distributed by US label DARLA records (home to releases by THE ORB, MY MORNING JACKET, TULLYCRAFT and JIM O'ROURKE), has appeared at the Boulder Fringe Festival in 2007, mentioned in countless blogs and even name-checked on L.A. gossip websites. All this without management, distribution, funding, or help of a label, all with a rampant DIY philosophy, and all from their rural home base in Vermont.

Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/noise maker/digital composer Chris Partyka has been playing and making recordings since 1982 under many aliases.  The purpose for these outbursts has always been the same - not for some kind of self-gratification or to "prove himself" - but to document TRAVELS/LIFE with audio instead of written words.  Sadly, more than half of the recordings made since those humble beginnings have been lost, but many are available today as weird collections of music and sound bits between the lengths of 9 seconds and 23 minutes.  Usually difficult to categorize because of sprawling eclecticism, these aural diaries can range from video-game like "orchestral sequencer music" to avant-garde tape experimentation, chord-based sing-song, lo-fi clarinet arrangements and even found-sound recordings of human, animal, rural and urban activity emitted from either (or, in some cases many) of the 16 locations he has lived in his 34 years.  Each collection of recordings usually varies greatly from song to song, each track disparate enough to jar or even off-put the listener, lull them to sleep, tell a story, rile them up or just make them feel happy and alive.   myspace

"Mapother IV are not one of Hollywood's biggest stars, they are just a psychedelic sonic manifestation about to release a trio of records this year. They should make friends wherever Velvet Underground and Brian Jonestown Massacre's groovy fans hang out.  a jolly disposition with its head firmly fixed on a sound that first emerged about 40 years ago. Out of time, periodically out of tune but boy is it good for the mind, body and spirit." mp3hugger    myspace
